BIOPRINTER as a media device offers a unique way to make data more engaging and accessible to a wider audience. It takes raw data, which can often seem dry and lifeless, and transforms it into compelling data stories. This tool acts as a bridge, connecting the often complex language of experts with everyday people, enabling more meaningful communication.
BIOPRINTER utilizes a living ecosystem featuring fire moss to bring data to life. The data chosen for this project is centered around climate change, particularly focusing on projected changes in precipitation in Lithuania.




Data visualisation device
At its core, BIOPRINTER consists of 'biopixels,' each coated with a layer of moss spores. These pixels respond to controlled levels of water and light, directly corresponding to the data values. Over a span of several weeks, BIOPRINTER forms a multi-colored surface map with various textures. Within this living landscape, different appearances of the moss represent various aspects of the rain data, such as droughts, floods, and typical weather conditions.

BIOPRINTER embodies an innovative approach to data visualization that transcends traditional charts and graphs. It provides a distinct method for translating intricate data sets into compelling and accessible information experiences. It encourages a deliberate, thoughtful approach to information consumption, fostering a unique perspective on learning and comprehension.
